Where it begins

Do you want to work for the rest of your life?

At every Ikigai workshop, we open with this question. The answer is usually a resounding no — capital N, capital O. But once people describe the work they actually long for, the no becomes something more thoughtful. It was never work itself they disliked. It was the terms.

  • “I just don't want to be working for a boss.”
  • “We call the work that we do hanap-buhay, but how come it feels more like hanap-patay?”
  • “I want work that does not require me to come in a fixed number of hours and days in a week.”
  • “I like what I do in my business — I just wish the financial side of it wasn't so stressful.”

A reason for being

What Ikigai means

Four aspects of work, one meeting point.

Ikigai translates to “a reason for being.” It describes four things at once — and for most of us, three are already within reach. The fourth is the hack.

  1. 01

    Joy

Doing something you love and enjoy. It brings excitement, passion and energy.

  2. 02

    Excellence

Using and applying your unique strengths and talents. This brings confidence and validation.

  3. 03

    Purpose

Filling a need in the world and being of service to others. This brings fulfillment and meaning.

  4. 04

    Financial peace

Being meaningfully compensated. This brings security and the freedom to choose.

The hack

Financial freedom is the key that unlocks it.

If you are gainfully employed or running a thriving business, your work already gives you an opportunity for excellence, purpose and financial security. Three of the four aspects of Ikigai are certain... The only question that remains then: is it joyful?

If not, don't fret. Just begin with a simple question: what do you love?

Then let’s build the financial foundation that gives you room to pursue it. And the secret from experience, is that the moment you begin working with joy, excellence and purpose, becoming very good at the thing you love and being of service, the money also follows.

In their words

After the workshop

What stood out most was the application — practical tools on building a household balance sheet, cash flow statement and tracking net worth. I've been doing these since 2007, but I still walked away with fresh insights.

Bai and Chewy delivered one of the best financial workshops I've ever attended. It was incredibly easy to understand and follow — of course, as long as you're willing to stay disciplined.

What's powerful is speaking from the voice of experience. It's living proof. You're not being sold something — and that makes it feel real, doable, attainable.
